The Spirited Thrifter

My name is Nicole. I’m a 41-year-old wife and mother of three awesome kids, aged 9, 7 and 4. I started style blogging in August 2012 after my husband lost his job and I discovered thrifting as an avenue for affordable fashion and retail therapy! He found another awesome job soon after, but I continued with my adventure of shopping second hand for myself for a full year and I’m not planning to stop any time soon!

They say “Everything is bigger in Texas” and, as it turns out, that includes me.  I have been hesitant to comment on this because size should be non-issue.  I follow people on social media for all kinds of reasons and not-a-one of them is their size.  However, you’d have to be b...

Looks for MUCH Less
Posted
I don’t read magazines much anymore in this Pinterest era, but when I do, I always enjoy the ‘look for less’ features BUT – I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks this – even the “less” pieces are way more expensive than I would be willing t...

Not Thrifted
Posted
There was a rare occurrence on Instagram today.  Your truly posted an outfit that had only ONE thrifted element – my Miz Mooz boots. The rest of the outfit came from a variety of sources – B.T. (Before Thrifting), clothing swap, and ethically-made pieces sold via small businesses.  It...

It’s the morning of December 31st where I live and I woke up too early, apparently so that I could spend some time musing on the past year (and not fall back asleep).  January 2nd marks 6 months since I moved to the US!!  It still seems hard to believe sometimes that I’m not just down...

Cancun Style

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know that my family and I spent a week in Cancun just before Christmas.  Although it wasn’t the dramatic weather difference as it would have been last year coming from Canada, it was nonetheless warmer than Houston currently, and it was...

My Faves, The Finale

This has been fun, waxing on and on about my favourite things.  I can see why Oprah likes it, and when your favourite becomes someone else’s favourite and theirs becomes yours… it just feels like the world is a happier place for it!  I have five more faves to share before I take a lit...

My Faves – Part Two

December seems like the perfect time to talk about favourites!!  Maybe you’ve cleaned out your closet like me, maybe you’re picking up some gifts for others and hoping they will like the same things as you, maybe you’re making a Christmas wish list of some familiar faves and new...

My Faves – Part One

During the Closet Minimalism Game, I received an excellent suggestion from my friend Jess to share the flip side of the purge – what to keep, or my favourite things in my closet.  You probably don’t know this about me, but I LOOOOVVVEEE pontificating on my faves.  Maybe it stems from ...

Can you believe how fast November passed?!  My November held the tailwinds of the lows but also some significant highs in the form of not one but two long visits with loved ones from Canada!  Exactly the rejuvenation I needed!  All the while, I’ve been posting daily purge prompts on Instagr...

Well, I’ve worn pants once or twice since moving to Houston even though they cried when they saw me coming.  😉  #margaritasandchips  It’s safe to say that I have more pants than I need and they haven’t been on my thrifting radar at all… except I did find a pair of J Brand...
